On the Road : South Australian Scale Model Expo 2025

On October 10th, we hit the road again this time headed over once again for the 2025 South Australian Scale Model Expo in Adelaide.

Friday kicked off early. I first had to head into the factory at around 4:30am to pack some outstanding orders that needed to be shipped that day before finally hitting the road at 5:30am. The drive over was great, not much happened apart from a few rain showers just before I hit the SA border. The scenery was beautiful to see as well, with the spring crops at their best in the paddocks as I drove down the highway.

I made good time, arriving into Adelaide around 1pm. First stop was to drop off a restock order to our friends at Hobby Habit in Melrose Park, then I headed over to the motel where I checked in.

Setup started at 4pm, so I headed over to Kent Town where the show as being held and unloaded the Ute. A couple of hours later, our tables were all set up and ready to go for the weekend ahead.

And with that done, it was time to go and grab some dinner and get some much-earned sleep.

Saturday started off strong with lots of people coming in the doors early to drop their entries off and then grab some paints.

For this show, we introduced something fun with the new Super Mystery Paint Grab - a mystery pick where you could pick out 1 of 6 different Limited Edition colours out of the tub. This proved to be VERY popular, with around 2/3rds of the stock sold, so we will definitely be continuing this at the next shows we do for the foreseeable future.

Paul Zerbe also brought some of his cool 3d printed 'Toon' style cars that he painted in our paints to display on our table, for which we were greatly appreciative of. If you would like to see more of Paul's work, check him out on Instagram @zerbs_customs_models

Saturday drew to a close, so I headed back to the motel again, grabbed some dinner and got some rest so I was ready for the final day.

Sunday was a little quieter in the morning (it always is at shows), with many people doing family things on the Sunday morning before coming back into grab their entries later in the day. That gave me a chance to have a quick look around at my entries to see how they went in the competition. I took 10 entries this year and managed to get 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Animal Kingdom category with some of my Dinosaurs, and 3rd in the Cars Showroom Finish for my LX Torana.

As the day went on, more and more paints were sold with another huge rush of customers in the early afternoon. Then, at 3pm when the award ceremony started, I started to pack up. I had the Ute packed in record time and hit the road for home at 4:15pm.

I stopped for a quick bite to eat and to top up the fuel at Tailem Bend then kept on through, stopping for a break at a town called Keith where there is an old Centurion tank sitting on the side of the highway.

After another quick stop in Horsham, I kept on driving and finally arrived home at 11:50pm on Sunday night, jumped into bed and then was rudely awakened at 5:30am with my alarm to get out of bed and start the working week once again.

Overall, it was a great weekend at the SA Model Expo. I got to catch up with some great friends, had a laugh, and met a whole new lot of people who were new to our products. Very successful indeed!

Our next show will be ScaleACT in Canberra on November 8th and 9th 2025, so hope to see you there if you are going!

And with that, I will leave you with some photos of some of the models that caught my eye at the show :
