Diecast Model Expo 2025

The 2025 Diecast Model Expo was held over 3 days from the 19th through to the 21st of September, and after visiting the same show back in 2023 at the Melton Tabcorp Park, I reached out to Dimitri from the Expo to express a wish to sponsor their custom model competition. After a few back and forth emails, we also locked in a trade table spot at the Expo - the first time we have traded at a dedicated Diecast Model show.
I headed down the Western Highway to the event location, Westwaters Entertainment Complex in Caroline Springs (Melbourne), on the Thursday morning to set up our trade tables. The new location for the event was great as it was only an hour and ten minute drive from our factory, much more convenient than what I am used to when going to shows (I'm usually on the road from anywhere between 7 to 10 hours!)
The venue was very easy to find and after a brief catch up with our friends from Diecast Distributors Australia, Oz Wheels and Drake Collectables, I unloaded the Ute and set up our trade stand.
With that finished, I headed back to the factory to finish off a few things before heading home. Friday rolled around and I headed down the highway again for the first day of the show.
The show opened the doors at 8am, and the first 3.5 hours were packed tight as the attendees lined up for a chance to purchase the first of the show's exclusive diecast models, the 1/64 Oz Wheels VK 'Meanie' in Blue and Pink colours, plus the XA Falcon, VL Commodore and FSD version of the HJ Sandman.
Then to top that off, Oz Wheels released a special Limited Edition 'Super Fusion' version of the VK Commodore in 1/64 scale but this time with a special anodised rainbow finish. I grabbed one of these for myself as well as one of the Pink VKs for my wife.
Once the crowd died down, the sales started flowing with many new people visiting our stand to buy some paints so they could airbrush and customise their diecast models.
To finish off the first day, there were further Limited Edition diecast releases, this time from our friends at Drake Collectables. Along with these new releases from Bruce and the Drake crew, we also produced 5 new Truck Colours to match the McAleese and Mansell liveries of the Drake Collectables models.
I didn't hang around for the afterhours Oz Wheels Games Night on the Friday night as I needed to get home, but from all accounts, it was a very popular evening with everyone.
Saturday was as equally as busy with even more Limited Edition Diecast Models being released by Drake Collectables, this time launched with the real truck they were based off of parked out the front of the venue!
Sunday was a half day, with the show running until 12 noon only. This gave us time to get a few last minute sales in before we packed up the stand, loaded the Ute and headed back to the factory to unload it all in preparation for the week ahead.
As a part of our attendance at the show, we advertised in the Expo Guide as well as sponsoring the Custom Model Competition.
The Custom Model Competition had multiple categories for both Diecast and Plastic Models, so to help, I entered two of my own models, the A9X Torana (painted in SMS Colour Shift Extreme Supernova) and the LJ Torana (painted in SMS Colour Shift Extreme Cosmic Dust over a base colour of Bright Blue).
Much to my surprise, I ended up winning 4 trophies for these two builds - 2nd and 3rd in the People's Choice, and 1st and 2nd in the John Marios Choice categories for Best Plastic Kit builds.
Here are a few photos of some of the entries that stood out to us at the show (and quite a few had been painted using SMS Paints as well!) :
Overall, the Diecast Model Expo was another very successful show for us. We got to meet a heap of new people, we caught up with many great friends including some from of our strongest business relationships that we have, and even got a few new retailers interested in finding out more about our range.
The Diecast Expo is a bi-annual event currently, with the next one tipped to happen around the same time in 2027. Keep an eye on their website and Facebook page for all the future updates and announcements for the next one!
